21Addicted to Android – Life Changing Technology

It never occur to me that mobile technology has progressed by leaps and bounds the past few years . There are so many things that you can do with it nowadays. It is no longer just a normal phone one use to typically make or receive calls. On a personal note, for me, Android OS is indeed a life changing technology that opens up new opportunities to connect and reach out to the world.
It has become somewhat like a Swiss all in one army knife so to speak. Integrated high resolution camera, huge memory storage, high speed processor, GPS, improve wireless technology, larger screen display and other plethora of function rich enhancements turn a palm size communication gadget into super powerful mini computer.
Mobile applications are key enablers that makes it what it is of today. Apart from standard apps such as SMS, email, camera, games, radio and music, mobile social media networking and bookmarking apps such as Facebook, YouTube, StumbleUpon and tons of cool apps makes it a must bring along gadget wherever you are.
One interesting and cool feature that I really like is the fact that you can instantly upload pictures and videos that you capture from you phone to YouTube or Facebook!. You can also blog while you are on the move, say in the bus or train but please refrain from doing while you are on the wheels driving!
You can also do serious work stuffs with it too for instance, write and respond to business emails, create or edit documents such as spreadsheets and all sort of Office documents. Boy, you can even do live video conferencing with people half the world away. I wonder what else the smart phone cannot do!.
Okay, I think I am getting ahead of myself. I am really glued and stuck to Android apps. Even though the Galaxy S2 is not the best smart-phone around, nevertheless I like it because it is quite easy to use, and not restricted to stuffs like Apple where most apps need to be register and downloaded via iTune.
Last but not least, all serious Internet Marketers and online business entrepreneurs should not overlook the potential to generate lucrative income with mobile marketing. Google indicates that its daily mobile ads revenue is at least US$10million a day!
More and more consumers are making purchase and e-commerce transaction via their mobile phone so the sooner you mobilize your online business the sooner you get to reach out to billions of prospects and customers. Mobile marketing is not the future, it is now and you need to make plans to make your business websites to be mobile friendly.

This company has redefine what it means to be big, that big is beautiful and elegant. Don’t take my word for it, you got to hold and feel it your palm in order experience just how large it is.
Even though it is a jumbo size king, it remain as slim as the Samsung Galaxy S2. The designer of this product is really smart indeed. By maintaining the same width and slimness as that of its predecessors, somehow you still find it quite comfortable to hold it.

18Big Is Beautiful – Samsung Smart Phones
Filed in: Mobile Technology, Technology by admin on 12-18-11I still recalled the earlier years where mobile wireless handsets are as big and heavy as a brick. With advancement in microelectronics and mobile technology mobile phone dimensions start to shrink. Small implies elegance and classy.
I am latecomer to the using smart phone. I was still using an old Nokia mobile phone that only comes only with basis features such as SMS and calls receive capability. I decided to change to Samsung Galaxy S2 when my phone plan expired last month.
Samsung is a market leader for smart phones. The company is now positioned to brand itself as a trend setter much like Apple. I would never switch back to my old Nokia phone again.
I can’t imagine leaving home without my smart phone. I love Android; it is feature rich and really cool with many free apps. Facebook, YouTube, emails, online browsing, games, you name it, the Android apps are readily available and they are free!
With the data plan of 12GB per month, like most average user, I guess I will never reach the quota limits by just surfing the web. Furthermore, like most people I usually prefer to use the wifi for connection when I am at home or in places with wifi hotspots.
Smart phones get slimmer and smaller by each successive model. Samsung has of recent redefine what smart phone dimension is to be. Apparently now it seems that the bigger the dimension the better it is.

Take a look at the size of Samsung’s latest smart phone, the Samsung Notes. It is almost the size of a ping-pong bat. I bet you can even play table tennis with it. Yeah, sure do the screen looks big and comfortable to the eyes but it is too huge a dimension to fit nicely into your front or back pockets.
With a 5”3 inch screen display, this smart phone is by far the largest of its kind. Powered by Android OS, I have no doubt that it will be well accepted by consumers particularly Samsung smart phone fans.
The Note was designed and positioned in the market as an in between average smart phone and the Samsung mini tablet. I guess that is fine but I don’t think it is going to be a top Samsung products because of its sheer size which may put off some people who might find it inconvenience to carry around.
Surprisingly I think the ladies may find the Notes a good and nice to have products because they can put it into their handbags. Well, I am happy with my S2, and regardless of the size.
The major problem with all smart phones is the battery life. Wifi and 3G data access it drains a lot of power and as a result you got to charge it almost everyday. I have to set the display brightness to minimum and disable GPS tracking feature otherwise the battery will be flat by end of the day even if I don’t use it to call or surf the net.
Who knows, perhaps there will come a time whereby smart phone will be powered by super mini nuclear cell thus alleviating the need to charge for years just like nuclear submarines.
For sure I won’t be able to witness that in my time, perhaps the generation after the next! Cheers
I am thinking of getting a new smartphone. I guess I am really a late comer when it comes to high tech mobile phone. I am quite impressed with Samsung Galaxy IIs and it is my first choice but with iPhone5 on the horizon I guess I am spoilt for choices. Well, since iPhone5 launch event is just around the corner I’ll just sit tight and hang on for the moment and then later decide which one to go far.

21Hard Disk Drive – Quick Format Versus Full Format

The actual mechanism involving disk formatting is a lot much more complicated but I guess the general description of it is quite good in this article. Even though you may need to be bother or be concern with what quick or full format is nevertheless there is no harm to have a general idea of what formatting hard disk drive is all about. Some people think that formatting is only applicable to HDD. In actual fact all form of computer data storage devices such as SD card, Memory Stick, rewritable DVD and etc requires some form of format operation of least once before it can be used to store information. For instance, all digital camera types has the option to format the external memory such as the SD card or the memory stick (for e.g. Sony Memory Stick).
In between, do also take note that most HDD (hard disk drive) has limited life span of up to 5 years maximum. Depending on how often you use it, you should always make it a point to back up all your data at least once a week.
Depending on how often you used it and the environmental condition such as the temperature, humidity and etc, your hard disk could break down due to accelerated wear and tear. So better be safe than sorry. Always ensure you have back up copies of your important data.

09Hybrid Disk Drives – State Of the Art Storage Technology

The computer hard disk a.k.a hard disk drive better known as ‘HDD’ is the primary medium that serves as the main data storage to store all the files and programs that you have ever downloaded and installed in the computer.
Why is it called ‘hard disk drive’ ? Well, some said that it is term as ‘hard’ because the media (where the data are recorded ) is made up of rigid hard material substance thus the name hard disk drive. Gone are the days of ‘soft drive’ better known as ‘floppy disk drive’.
Anyway, HDD technology has come a long way since. HDD comes into two major form factors namely 3.5 inch and the 2.5 inch. The former is usually found in computer desktop while the latter is usually installed into computer laptops and notebooks.
The standard storage capacity for the latest generations of 3.5inch drive is at least 1TB (pronounced as one terabyte). Notebook 2.5″ HDD with capacity of 1TB has just begun shipping and you can no doubt find it computer retailer shops by end of this year.

Modern operating systems are getting bulkier and require more and more disk space to install. Unlike the days of DOS, nowadays, it is not surprising for an OS to take up at least 2GB or more disk space.
It is not uncommon for people to download tons of video, music and files from the Internet to their computer. Your computer disk drive or HDD can fill up pretty quickly particularly with high definition video streaming and other high resolution graphic intensive applications which churns out tons of data per second.
One of the major bottleneck with regards to computer performance is the hard disk drive itself. Even though computer CPU speed is getting faster with successive generation of new chip sets, the same cannot be said of HDD. The reason being that HDD technology is constraint by myriads of technological hurdles from mechanical and electrical aspects.
At some point of time I am sure will experience noticeable long time for your computer to start up and become responsive to your mouse clicks. Slow Windows boot up time is not surprising and the situation gets worse the longer you used the hard disk . It does not matter if you have a fast CPU, it takes time for the HDD to spin up and get ready to transfer data to the host (computer)
In a nutshell you can visualize a HDD resembling the old style music record player where you have the major components such as the record itself where the songs are stored and the playback head mounted on top of the record player which you need to manually position on the record before you on it . When power is applied to the record player, the record which is mounted on a spindle spins and the head moving along the spiral tracks pick ups electrical signal which is then further process, amplified and output as audio playback sound.
As you would’ve noticed, there are overheads in terms of the time needed to spin up the drive and mechanical movement and positioning of the head to the required track, usually in the order of milliseconds compare to nanoseconds for CPU (the computer brain, namely the microprocessor) thus this increase the operating system boot up time to get ready.
There is another class of data storage called solid state device, better known as SSD. Such storage do not contain any mechanical moving parts which obviously helps to improve computer boot up time. The major disadvantage with SSD is that it is very expensive in comparison with the HDD. The cost of the SSD increase significantly with increase capacity whereas it is not so with HDD.
One way to mitigate the shortcomings of HDD (due to mechanical constraints and overheads ) is by incorporating an SSD to store frequently used data and other critical operating system related files such as window registry and etc. Disk drive with on board SSD is known as hybrid drive.
Hybrid drive is more expensive compare to the standard HDD but a lot less expensive compare to SSD. Such drive improve computer boot up time significantly because the operating is able to boot up from the SSD portion and execute without having to wait for the drive to get ready (takes about 3 to 5 seconds for the drive to spin up to speed) and several seconds or more to move the head (seek operation in technical term) to retrieve required information.
